the art barn

All stories skip around, and this story will do so more than others.

Last August I finally started a year plus journey to creating the art barn. My garage turned into art studio. At the time I started cleaning it out I never thought it would be more than cement floors, and bare walls. Fast forward 12 months and we have French doors, insulation, and wall coverings and many shades of paint.

The top row shows images from August-September of last year.

The bottom row from the past two weeks of work.

The moral of the story is you can create a beautiful space with a bit of blood, sweat and tears (and money). You can also change your mind a lot when you are the one doing the work. You don’t need as much stuff as you think you do, and thank goodness for Goodwill and Value Village.

Salvage is amazing! the door and soon to be windows came from reuse stores (Second Use or Habitat for Humanity) and half the wood came from the decomposing fence in our side yard.

Now to manifest an electrician.

Just keep showing up and going back and going back and going back. Little by little things fall into place and a dream you thought was a million miles away falls into place.

I can totally see myself teaching here, not in 6 months to a year but in 2 months or less.

onward!
